MOTIE held 'Ulsan Mipo Smart Green Industrial Complex Launching Ceremony' in Ulsan-Mipo National Industrial Complex on February 15.

The smart green industrial complex project is to converge digital and eco-friendly elements to existing industrial complex, fostering it as the future-oriented cutting-edge industrial base.

Ulsan Mipo was newly designated as smart green industrial complex, along with Busan Myeongji Industrial Complex and Jeollabuk-do Gunsan last year.

Following Ulsan-Mipo, the project groups for Busan Meyonggi Noksan and Jeonbuk Gusan will be launched on February 16, February 23, respectively.

The Smart Green Industrial Complex Project Group consists of public officials dispatched from the Korea Industrial Complex Corporation and local governments, playing a bridging role between the central government-local governments-tenant companies.

Also, they will be in charge of key projects of smart green industrial complex such as smart logistics platform, comprehensive control center, and process innovation simulator center, among others.

The MOTIE has designated 10 smart green industrial complex to date, including 7 previously designated (Gyeonggi Banwol Sihwa, Gyeongnam Changwon, Incheon Namdong, Gyeongbuk Gumi, Jeonnam Yeosu, Daegu Seongseo, Gwangju Cheomdan).

In addition, it has continously expanded relevant budget from KRW 78.5 billion in 2020, KRW 123.6 billion in 2021, and KRW 164.8 billion in 2022.

Based on that, it has built key infrastructure of smart green industrial complex in 37 places, including process innovation simulation center, in 3rd year of the project.

It also carried out about 1,200 business support activities, and provided smart manufacturing related education to about 9,000 students and workers.

Specific achievements include: a semiconductor manufacturer in Gumi Industrial Complex achieved 25% increase in productivity, on the back of support from the materials, parts, and equipment support center.

An aviation parts manufacturer in Changwon Industrial Complex cut processing time 68% by improving 8-step processing to 3-step processing through smart manufacturing demonstration factory.
