Ulsan City has made efforts to promote the international exchange on mountain tourism with Switzerland and Japan and plans to expand the relationship to include China and New Zealand.

Ulsan City said on February 12 that it will conclude cooperative agreement with Japan's Yoyama, China's Hebei, New Zealand's Queenstown and Switzerland's Lezern, all of the cities using the brand name of Alps, in an attempt to promote Yeongnam Alps' mountain tourism.

At first, the city included only Switzerland and Japan in its cooperative partners, but later decided to expand the cooperation to China and New Zealand, recognizing the fact that China and New Zealand are also well-known for using the brand name Alps to facilitate their mountain tourism.

Ulsan signed a joint declaration for sustainable mountain tourism with Toyama last October and is coordinating schedules with Hebei.

Ulsan considers inviting the representatives of the four cities to Silver Grass Festival to be held in Yeongnam Alps, Ulsan, in October.

It plans to suggest signing a cooperative agreement with the representatives of the cities attending to declare the mutual development based on their mountain tourism resources.

Yeongnam Alps, Ulsan, is located at an altitude of more than 1,000 meters connecting to Mt. Gaji, Mt. Cheonhwang, Mt. Jaeyak, Mt. Ganwol, Mt. Sinbul and Mt. Yeongchuk.

Ulsan has unveiled its ambitious plan to develop the Yeongnam Alps into the No. 1 mountain tourism course in Korea. The plan includes investing about 536 billion won to build cable cars by 2019 and Silver Grass Path.
