According to Yonhap News,

Ulsan Technopark (TP) held a seminar on the 2012 R&D Achievement and Development Strategy of Nuclear Reactor Equipment at Ulsan Lotte Hotel in mid-December.

Ulsan TP conducted 93 R&D projects this year including electric vehicles, commercialization of core materials for secondary batteries, cultivation of science parks, energy industry, academic-industrial partnership and development of technology for nuclear reactor equipment.

When it comes to eight electric vehicle-related projects, Ulsan TP applied for 12 patents, generated 40 jobs and manufactured eight trial products.

For commercialization of core materials for secondary batteries, it has built a battery-related cluster, conducts R&D on cathode and anode materials and electrolyte. In the energy sector, it engages in commercialization of green technology using waste gases including hydrogen and carbon dioxide and establishment of a hydrogen town.

In addition, Ulsan TP started to support technology for nuclear reactor equipment this year to lay the technological groundwork for the Southeast Asia.

The academic-industrial partnership project, led by Ulsan TP, increased Ulsan's total R&D investment to 452.2 billion won in 2010 from 372.1 billion won in 2005 and the number of research centers to 242 in 2010 from 123 in 2005.

"Ulsan TP has focused on creating new growth engines, which contribute to transforming Ulsan's industries into high-end, future-oriented ones," said Ulsan Mayor Park Maeng-u.
