Federation of Korean Industries jointly held a seminar on the Saemangeum Project with the Prime Minister’s Office at Korea Press Center on March 25th.

About 40 executives in charge of investment in the construction, shipbuilding, electronics, new and renewable energy, and tourism industries participated in the seminar.

Director Lee Byeong-guk of Saemangeum Project Division of the Prime Minister’s Office explained the status and economic and cultural value of Saemangeum Project under the theme of ‘the potential and value of Saemangeum.’ Commissioner Lee Myeong-no of Saemangeum Gunsan Free Economic Zone Authority had a presentation on the plan to form tourism districts in the southern part of Saemangeum.

Minister Lim Chae-min of the Prime Minister’s Office presided over a luncheon meeting for the executives and stressed “this seminar is to show that the government has firm commitment to the success of Saemangeum Project.”

He said that he expected companies would make more active investment in Saemangeum, and promised any barriers against investment would be tackled.

According to FKI, the executives said the success of Saemangeum Project required investment home and abroad since the project was a large-scale general development project, and suggested specific and extraordinary incentives should be offered.

The government held the sixth meeting of Saemangeum Committee on March 16th to confirm the general development plan for Saemangeum including five tasks: carbon-free city, ecology and green area network, high-end water front city, virtuous cycle of resources, and increase in new and renewable energy supply.
