Ssangyong Engineering & Construction Co., a South Korean builder, said
Thursday that it has won an order to reconstruct part of Pakistan's Karachi sea
port.
The US$92.8 million deal reached with the Karachi Port Trust
calls for the rebuilding and refurbishing of several ship berths along the east
wharves at the port in the South Asian country.
"The deal is
noteworthy because Ssangyong is already working on updating five berths at the
port for around $90 million," a corporate source said.
He claimed
winning the new contract at Pakistan's largest city is a testament to the
builder's capabilities and proven ability to meet all construction
requirements.
Work on the east wharves is scheduled to be completed in
30 months after construction begins, with the Pakistani contractor to provide 15
percent of the building cost up front to Ssangyong.
