An international consortium led by South Korea's state-run Korea Electric Power
Corp. (KEPCO) has won a US$800 million order to build a diesel power plant in
Jordan, the South Korean utility said Tuesday.
The consortium will
build an internal combustion diesel power plant with a generation capacity of
600 megawatts in Jordan's Al Manahker, 30 kilometers east of the capital Amman,
according to KEPCO.
With a 60-percent stake in the project, the South
Korean firm will be in charge of the plant's operation and maintenance following
its completion in March 2014.
"The project is also expected to
generate about $10.2 billion in sales over the next 25 years as Jordan's
National Electric Power Company has agreed to purchase power generated by the
plant in a take-or-pay contract," KEPCO said in a news release.
The
remaining stake in the plant will be shared among the other members of the
consortium -- Japan's Mitsubishi Corp. and Finland's Wartsila.
