Daelim Industrial Corp., a major South Korean builder, said Wednesday that its earnings surged 97.9 percent in 2011 from a year earlier mainly due to strong overseas orders.

Net profit came to 433.6 billion won (US$384.9 million) last year, compared with 219.1 billion won a year earlier, the company said in a regulatory filing.

Sales expanded 13.3 percent on-year to 7.18 trillion won last year with operating profit shooting up 88.4 percent to 582.4 billion won.

Daelim said that it did well by building large oil refineries and power generation plants in the Middle East and Southeast Asia. The company also secured fresh orders exceeding 10.73 trillion won last year, up 30.8 percent compared to the year before.

The company said that it aims to win new building orders topping 13.7 trillion won in 2012.

It added its business goal for this year is to push up operating profit and sales to 807.9 billion won and 9.44 trillion won, respectively.
