Korean Air Lines Co., South Korea's leading airline, said Friday that it will
launch Northeast Asia's first direct flight services to Nairobi, Kenya, in
June.
The flag carrier said the flights connecting Incheon
International Airport, west of Seoul, and Nairobi's Jomo Kenyatta International
Airport will greatly reduce travel time and add to passenger
convenience.
Kenya is home to many international organizations and is
a transportation hub for other African countries. It is also a center of tourism
that draws a large number of people from around the world every year.
At present, passengers from South Korea and other parts of Northeast Asia have
to transfer planes in the Middle East if they want to reach countries in East
Africa, which takes 18-25 hours. With the new direct route the flight time will
be cut to little over 13 hours.
Korean Air said it will offer three
weekly flights to Kenya starting from June 21 with the 226-seat A330-200 wide
body, long-range passenger jet to be used on the route.
