LG Electronics Inc., one of South Korea's leading consumer appliance
manufacturers, said Thursday it has won a 2012 Energy Star Partner of the Year
award.
The honor, given by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency
and the U.S. Department of Energy, recognized LG's steady contributions to
reducing greenhouse gas emissions by making energy efficient products.
The award, which was launched in 2001, also lauded the company's efforts to
educate consumers about eco-friendly products.
Last year, 406 product
models such as TVs, washing machines and refrigerators made by the electronics
company received "energy star" certificates. The combined sales of such products
jumped 30 percent on-year in 2011.
In addition to making energy
efficient, environmentally friendly products, LG has started a campaign to make
better use of renewable energy and also started numerous programs to reduce
carbon dioxide emissions across the board.
A formal awards ceremony
will be held on March 15 in Washington.
