South Korea's financial watchdog said Sunday that its head discussed how to
promote cooperation with his counterparts in Vietnam and Indonesia during his
visit to the Southeast Asian countries.
Kim Seok-dong, the chairman of
the Financial Services Commission (FSC), made a four-day visit to the two
countries from Feb. 29 and met government and central bank officials there to
discuss ways to promote cooperation in the financial sectors, according to the
watchdog.
The FSC said that Vietnam authorities have appealed for the
Korean financial watchdog to send officials to have a chance to share Korea's
experience in carrying out a corporate overhaul and overcoming the financial
crisis.
"Vietnam and Indonesia are major emerging countries where
Korean companies have invested. The government plans to support local companies
and financial firms' efforts to go global by enhancing cooperation with Asian
countries," the FSC said.
