South Korean tech giant Samsung Electronics Co. said Tuesday its TVs and laptop
computers became the top-selling brands in major Latin American countries last
year.
The tech giant said it grabbed bigger slices of the TV markets
in Brazil, Argentina, Chile, and Peru in 2011 with a promising forecast for
2012, fueled by its launch of premium products including new smart
TVs.
Samsung took up 28.7 percent of the flat-screen TV market in the
region, along with a 28.2 percent share for liquid-crystal display (LCD) TVs,
and 32.5 percent for light-emitting diode (LED) TVs.
In particular,
Samsung became the top player in Brazil, which takes up 40 percent of the entire
TV market in Latin America. Its market share in the country was 28.5 percent for
the flat-screen TVs, 27.8 percent for LCD TVs, and 31.5 percent for LED
TVs.
Samsung's laptop computers also registered explosive sales growth
in the four markets with 1.44 million units sold last year, a 343 percent jump
from 330,000 units in 2010. Samsung remained the largest seller of laptop
computers for the six consecutive month from last August to January.
The company said it is aiming to dominate the Latin American markets by
introducing the New Series 9 laptop computers this year.
Samsung is
currently holding an exhibition to showcase its latest smart TVs and laptops in
Lima, which wraps up on Wednesday.
