The Korea Trade-Investment Promotion Agency (KOTRA) has appointed financial expert Han Ki-won as the new commissioner of Invest KOREA (IK), its foreign investment promotion agency.
Han, 53, will lead IK for two years starting this month. He studied politics and economics at Waseda University in Tokyo and began his career at Daiwa Securities Group, Japan's second largest stock brokerage. He served as the chief of the group's branches in London and Seoul.
Han's excellent command of both English and Japanese, expertise in investment banking and high profile on the international stage best qualified him for the position, according to a KOTRA official.
"Foreign investment attraction is significant in that it can create new employment and develop the domestic industrial structure, and it is also in line with the Korean government's green growth drive," Han said. "I will use my 25 years of experiences in investment attraction and finance to facilitate foreign investment, which has been a bit sluggish."
