The total amount of foreign direct investment (FDI) attracted to Incheon Free Economic Zone (IFEZ) last year recorded $541.12 million, exceeding half of the combined FDI performances of three FEZs including Busan, Jinhae and Gwangyang Bay with $1.09 billion, according to the IFEZ authority.
Even amid the global financial crisis, IFEZ created 24,000 jobs and laid groundwork for developing into a global mecca of the bio industry with Samsung Biologics and Dong-a Pharmaceuticals relocated to IFEZ last year.
The authority also inked memorandum of understandings with four foreign universities including State University of New York Korea and University of Illinois last year alone to open campuses in Songdo Global University Campus.
