The Ministry of Land, Transport and Maritime Affairs (MLTM) announced revised ordinances concerning industrial sites which will allow energy generation facilities or universities to establish research institutes or their campus in industrial complexes.
So far, only seven facilities, stipulated in the existing ordinances including factories and knowledge-based and cultural facilities, had been allowed to be built in industrial complexes. With the growing demands for research and educational facilities within the complexes, however, the MLTM decided to allow the establishment of universities' campus in industrial complexes.
Hannam University, Gyeonggi College of Science and Technology and Kumoh National Institute of Technology plan to open their campus in Daedeok Innopolis, Sihwa-Banwol Industrial Complex and Gumi IT Park, respectively, according to the MLTM.
The revision will also give move-in priority to "U-turn companies" wanting to move to domestic industrial complexes from foreign countries and will permit foreign-invested companies to sign private contracts, which is expected to stimulate their investment in Korea.
