Seoul was selected as the host city of the 13th International Working Party for Documentation and Conservation of Buildings, Sites and Neighborhoods of the Modern Movement (Docomomo International) conference, scheduled to be held in 2014, during the 12th Docomomo International held in Helsinki, Finland, which ran from August 7 to 12.
Docomomo International is a non-profit organization whose work is concerned with the protection and conservation of modern architecture and urbanism, under the umbrella of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization.
The biennial event attracts about 800 architects and architectural scholars from 59 countries to discuss modern architecture.
The 2014 Docomomo International Seoul will be held at National Museum of Contemporary Art, Korea in Seoul in September under the theme of "Conflict and Expansion."
The 2014 conference is designed to discuss how Europe and US-oriented modernism has expanded during its conflicts with Asia's traditional culture.
