The Daegu-Gyeongbuk Free Economic Zone (DGFEZ) authority has attracted investment from 149 institutions and companies - 4 foreign companies, 116 domestic companies, 23 R&D centers and 6 educational institutes - since its establishment in August 2008.

Japanese global auto parts company Daicel started the construction of a factory in July at Yeongcheon High-Tech Parts and Material Industrial Complex and another Japanese company Nakamura-Tome Precision Industry also started to build a manufacturing facility in Daegu Technopolis in April.

In May, the DGFEZ authority signed a $21 million-investment memorandum of understanding with Frace's Faurecia to set up a factory on a 46,000 square meter-site in Yeongcheon High-Tech Parts and Material Industrial Complex.

Despite the faltering global economy, the DGFEZ has been aggressively engaged in investment attraction by organizing investment seminars.

"Even amid Europe's fiscal crisis and sluggish investment environments home and abroad, we will continue our investment attraction activities in a strategic and aggressive manner," said Choi Byeong-rok, chief of DGFEZ. "We will especially focus on the knowledge-based industry to find new growth engine."
