Tokyo Ohka Kogyo Advanced Materials, a joint venture between Samsung C&T and Japan's Tokyo Ohka Kogyo (TOK), inked an investment agreement with Incheon in early September to build a research institute and manufacturing facility specializing in advanced materials for next-generation semiconductor and LCD in Incheon's High-Tech Industrial Cluster.
TOK, a global leading photoresist manufacturer for semiconductors, will invest $510 million in the joint venture and start commercial production in the second half of 2013. The company decided to establish a manufacturing facility beyond Japan to prevent product supply disruption caused by natural disasters, including earthquakes, and to develop next-generation products with Korean partners.
The facility, to be located on a 28,000 square meter site in the High-Tech Industrial Cluster, which is located in Songdo International City, is expected to employ 200 people and generate more than 100 billion won in annual sales by 2015.
