According to Yonhap News,
South Korea's exports of food and other related sectors are anticipated to reach a fresh high this year, the agricultural ministry said Thursday, amid the expanding global trend of healthy eating.
As of Saturday, South Korea's exports in the food segment known as "the K-Food Plus" have reached US$10.4 billion this year, marking a 1.2 percent increase from a year earlier, according to the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs.
The K-Food Plus encompasses a diverse range of food products and related items, from fresh and processed goods to agricultural equipment and solutions.
Over the period, outbound shipments of kimchi, a traditional Korean side dish typically made from fermented cabbage, surged 9.4 percent to $137.4 million and those of strawberries shot up 24.6 percent to $52.8 million, the ministry said.
Exports of instant noodles also jumped 25.4 percent over the cited period to $842.7 million, already beating the $770 million posted for all of 2022, it added.
By destination, exports to China soared 11.3 percent to $1.24 billion, and those to the United States advanced 5.4 percent to $1.14 billion.
Outbound shipments to Europe also moved up 3.4 percent to $473.2 million, according to the ministry.
