South Korea’s Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy (MOTIE) is set to conduct a slew of research projects for industrial use of artificial intelligence (AI) by 2030 after announcing the package of initiatives on Friday.
MOTIE focuses on three key approaches to promoting the use of AI in industrial research and development to reduce costs, shorten timelines, and enhance performance. The ministry plans to support the use of AI in R&D design with more than 600 projects by 2030.
The strategy includes developing research design solutions that use AI to analyze patents, papers, and experimental data necessary to come up with guidance for technology development. The ministry aims to create more than 100 AI solutions by 2030, including those to be used by multiple industries, such as semiconductors and batteries, and 90 tailored to individual companies.
MOTIE will begin training large language models (LLMs) from November 2024 onwards using 110 million patents and 220 million academic papers. This will be used to launch a generative AI application, the Tech-GPT Platform, which will offer real-time insights into talent and corporate information.
