The Future of AI and Smart Cities… 'World Smart City Expo' to Be Held in September
Date
2026.07.14

According to Yonhap News,

(Seoul = Yonhap News) Reporter Im Gi-chang – The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport announced on the 13th that it will co-host the '2026 World Smart City Expo' alongside the Ministry of Science and ICT and the Busan Metropolitan City Government at BEXCO in Busan from September 9 to 11.

Marking its 10th anniversary this year, the World Smart City Expo is the largest smart city-related international event in the Asia-Pacific region. It has served as a platform for governments, municipalities, enterprises, experts, and citizens from around the globe to seek solutions for sustainable cities and the improvement of quality of life.

Under this year's official slogan, 'Beyond Smart City, Into AI City,' the event will showcase the 'K-AI City' policy. A wide spectrum of urban models ranging from traditional smart cities to next-generation AI cities will be introduced.

The K-AI City represents a model that integrates artificial intelligence technology into the operation of diverse urban infrastructures, such as transportation facilities, to deliver optimized and intelligent municipal services. In connection with this initiative, the government has selected Wonju in Gangwon Province, alongside Gangwon's Wonju City and Chungnam's Cheonan/Asan Cities, as the designated sites for its 'AI-Specialized Pilot City Project.'

The exhibition pavilions will feature innovative technologies and services related to smart cities, including AI/Smart Cities, Construction/Infrastructure, Mobility/Transportation, and Energy/Environment. Concurrently, academic and industrial conferences—such as the K-AI City Policy Conference—will be organized to provide platforms where industry leaders, academia, researchers, and government agencies can discuss core agendas including smart cities, AI cities, and future mobility.

Furthermore, corporate-targeted programs including export and purchasing consultation sessions, as well as big-business-matching open innovation events, have been arranged. Detailed information regarding the application processes can be accessed on the official expo website.
