KOTRA held Thailand-Korea Smart City Day for two days from December 14
Seminar, Online business meetings, PR pavilion...."actively targeting demand for K-smart city cooperation"
KOTRA held the Thailand-Korea Smart City Day with the Korean Ministry of Land, Transport, and Infrastructure, and Thailand Digital Economy Promotion Agency (DEPA) for two days starting from December 14 in Bangkok, Thailnad.
It was attended by Executive Director Wetang Phuangsup of Thailand Ministry of Digital Economy and Society, and Executive Vice President Passakon Prathombutr of DEPA, and key figures from the local government officials, and about 200 people from Korea including Lee Wook-heon, Korea's ambassador to Thailand and businesspeople participated online/offline. This event consisted of △Korea-Thailand Smart City Cooperation Seminar △Online Business Meeting △MOU Signing Ceremony and △Korea Smart City Promotion Pavilion.
Thailand's major local governments project owners were speakers and at the Korea-Thailand Smart City Cooperation Seminar, who introduced various projects such as smart mobility, security, and energy, asking for interest and cooperation from the Korean government and companies.
Meanwhile, the Thai government aims to create 100 smart cities by 2022, and local government are submitting plans to secure smart city creation incentives from the government. Currently, about 50 local governments, in addition to 7 national smart city pilot areas including Bangkok, Phuket, and Chiang Mai, are establishing or completed the establishment of creation plans, looking for domestic and international partners.
Passakon Prathombutr, Executive Vice President of DEPA, who participated as a speaker at this event, said, “Recent smart city trends include contactless, 5G, and data analysis in which Korea is a trend leader," adding "to expand cooperation, we need to develop a business model that could be a win-win for both countries."
KOTRA President said, “Thailand is pushing for a ‘Thailand 4.0’ policy that fosters future industries and startups using smart city infrastructure. We will strengthen our support so that Korea-style smart city can be expanded into overseas markets by taking into account smart city policies by major countries .”
