"Seoul Food in Bangkok" held targeting both facilitation of K-food exports and marketing effect

First overseas expansion of Korea's largest food exhibition "Seoul Food"
Invite 300 buyers for 123 export companies, stepping up efforts to expand exports to Southeast Asia beyond ASEAN


The Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy (MOTIE) and KOTRA held the "2024 Seoul Food in Bangkok" in Bangkok, Thailand from October 18 (local time) to support Korean companies' export and marketing. It is the first overseas expansion project of SEOUL FOOD, Korea's largest food exhibition, which marks the 42nd anniversary this year since its beginning in 1983. The event will be expanded to global markets with Bangkok, Thailand as a start, aiming at facilitating exchange between food-related companies home and abroad and make business achievements.

The opening ceremony of "Seoul Food in Bangkok" was attended by key figures including Lee Sang-woo, head of the Bangkok branch of the Korea Tourism Organization, CEO Chayapong Naviroj of SOOKSIAM, Director Kim Ga-young of the tourism industry division of Seoul Metropolitan Government, Secretary-General Kitsana Vachekrilas of the Thai Chamber of Commerce, ROK Ambassador to Thailand Park Yong-min, President Yu Jeoung-yeol of KOTRA, CEO Lee Yong-woo of Innocean, CEO Chayapong Naviroj of Siam Piwat Group, Vice President Chuleepan of the National Food Institute of Thailand, Chairman of CPF, Vice President Suma Wongphan of of ICONSIAM, and Lee Hee-sang, Regional Director General of Southeast Asia of KOTRA.

Considering that Thailand is the second-largest country in ASEAN, the B2B and B2C exhibitions of "Seoul Food in Bangkok" were also held simultaneously at ICONSIAM, the largest tourist destination in the capital Bangkok, as an effort to support Korean companies enter the Southwest Asian market.

As for the B2B exhibition*, 92 companies will participate in the "True Icon Hall" from October 18 to 20, while 31 companies will participate in the B2C pop-up store** for 17 days from October 18 to November 3 at the "Sook Siam" of ICONSIAM to conduct export consultation and marketing activities.

This year marks the 66th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relationship between Korea and Thailand. Thailand is one of the leading countries who set the food industry trends in ASEAN, when the Thailand's economic growth rate, according to the World Bank, will be 3.6 percent this year driven by the recovery of the Thai tourism industry and expansion of private consumption in spite of the sluggish global economy.
