‘Invest KOREA Summit 2024’ to be held in Seoul on November 6-8
Global Regional HQ Designation Ceremony to be held for the first time....and resume a tour of local government industrial complexes
The Invest Korea Summit 2024, hosted by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy (Minister Ahn Duk-geun) and organized by KOTRA (President Yu Jeoung-yeol), will be held for three days from November 6 to 8 at the Grand Intercontinental Hotel in Seoul.
IKS, Korea's largest foreign investment attraction event, celebrates its 20th year this year. Over 2,000 attendees will participate including foreign investors, officials from local governments and free economic zone authorities, domestic companies including startups, the chambers of commerce in Korea, embassies to Korea, and foreign press correspondents, among others.
Seven global companies specializing in energy and logistics, including Towa, the world's leading company in semiconductor equipment, will hold the foreign investment declaration ceremony totaling USD 920 million. In addition, the global regional HQ designation ceremony will be held for the first time in IKS history, with wind turbine maker Vestas (Denmark), and printer company HP (US) designating their Asia-Pacific HQs in Korea.
MOTIE Minister Ahn Duk-geun will present Korea's attractiveness and government's policy directions amid a rapidly changing global economic environment. This will be followed by keynote speech by Karen Madden, CTO of Life Science business of Merck and Yeom Jae-ho, Vice Chairman of Presidential Committee of AI, under the theme of "Future Vision of Advanced Industries and Korea."
A Foreign Press Conference, presided over by Cheong In-kyo, Minister for Trade, will present the Korean government's policy directions for FDI and trade to 31 foreign media outlets, including Bloomberg and Reuters, and hold a Q&A session regarding the largest reported investment attraction in the first half of the year, as well as strategies for attracting investments in high-tech industries such as semiconductors and AI.
In addition, a "Bleisure" program for foreign participants will be offered for the first time, in collaboration with the Korea Tourism Organization. The Bleisure (Business + Leisure) program will provide vouchers that can be used at famous tourist destinations, along with K-culture experience program for foreign investors and foreign journalists participating in IKS.
MOTIE Minister Ahn said, "We have been breaking records for the highest-ever foreign investment attraction every year for the past three years, and we are maintaining such momentum in the third quarter of this year. We will strive to become an investment hub in Asia, based on a stable investment environment, including the world's top-class manufacturing capabilities."
KOTRA's President Yu Jeoung-yeol said, "We will further enhance the capabilities of Invest KOREA, which is responsible for national investment promotion, and discover quality investment projects by expanding contacts with investors through our overseas business centers. By doing so, we will make foreign investment attraction a driving force for economic growth, even in the increasingly uncertain global economic environment."
