KOTRA's President Kang committed to making the Innovation Awards lead to expansion of exports and overseas markets

The Consumer Technology Association (CTA) of the United States recently announced the preliminary results for the CES 2025 Innovation Awards, revealing that South Korean companies have once again dominated the list. Of the 292 winners announced in the first round, 129 are Korean firms, the highest representation by any single country. Notably, 55 companies supported by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy (MOTIE) and KOTRA secured 73 awards.

* The final results, expected to include more than 500 winning companies, will be announced at the opening of the CES exhibition on January 7, 2025.

The CES Innovation Awards are presented annually by the CTA to recognize exceptional products launched during the year that demonstrate excellence in technology, design, and innovation. These prestigious awards are judged by a panel of over 100 experts from around the globe.

South Korea remains the top-ranking nation in terms of the number of award-winning companies for the second consecutive year. 129 Korean firms claimed 165 awards, accounting for 44.2% of all winning companies and 46.1% of Innovation awards. According to KOTRA’s analysis, out of 33 categories in total, South Korean companies performed exceptionally well in key categories, including: Fintech (4 awards, 100%); Sports (3 awards, 100%); Human Security (12 awards, 86%); Smart Cities (14 awards, 82%); Drones (4 awards, 67%); and Metaverse (4 awards, 65%)

The CES Innovation Awards are widely regarded as a springboard for companies aiming to expand internationally. The awards not only validate a product's technological excellence but also enhance brand recognition and credibility in global markets.

Recognizing the increasing importance of the awards, KOTRA plans to significantly expand its support for award-winning companies in 2025. A large-scale Korea Pavilion featuring 403 companies will be showcased at the CES exhibition in January. Following the event, KOTRA will collaborate with other organizations to launch a CES 2025 Innovation Awards Forum (tentative name) in Korea to support and promote winning companies. Additionally, KOTRA intends to integrate award-winning companies into its flagship annual events, such as BoomUp Korea and the Invest Korea Summit, by establishing dedicated exhibition and consultation zones to provide year-round support.

KOTRA President Kang Kyung-sung emphasized the organization’s commitment to helping Korean companies leverage the CES Innovation Awards for global success. “We will focus on sharing the remarkable achievements of our innovative companies and developing strategies to support their export and international expansion. Our goal is to ensure that their innovations do not stop at awards but lead to meaningful opportunities in overseas markets,” said Kang.
