Upon the outbreak of COVID-19, the Ministry of Employment and Labor (MOEL) has designated business sectors particularly hit hardest by the pandemic as ‘special employment support sectors’*.

In June 4, 2021, the MOEL announced that the period providing subsidy for employment retention in special employment support sectors will be extended from 180 days to 270 days. This measure is to ease the burden of damages and instable employment caused by the pandemic.

*special employment support sectors (15 industrial sectors) – shipbuilding, travel, travel accommodation, travel related transport, show business, aircraft handling, duty free shop, exhibition/convention/conference, airport bus, movie, training facilities, amusement park, foreigner-only casino, manufacturing aircraft and its parts, and fixed route bus service.
