[Background]
Considering the advancements in vehicle manufacturing technology leading to improved durability and performance, this amendment aims to ease the operational burden on Vehicle Rental Service Providers (Rent-a-Car companies) and enhance consumer convenience by relaxing the limits on vehicle age and replacement cycles. This will be achieved while minimizing the impact on traffic safety by prescribing maximum operable mileage.
[Main Points]
The primary goal of this newly established regulation, introduced by the amendment to the Enforcement Decree, is the economic burden reduction for the rental car industry. However, concerns about user safety exist when relaxing the vehicle age limit. Therefore, to address the potential additional safety issues resulting from the relaxed age limit, it is unavoidably necessary to prescribe maximum operable mileage.
*Maximum operable mileage limits: 250,000 km for compact and subcompact passenger vehicles used for rental business, 350,000 km for mid-sized vehicles, and 450,000 km for large and eco-friendly vehicles.
