[Background]
To protect fishery resources along the East Coast, it is necessary to restrict the fishing activities of coastal adjacent (Inshore/Nearshore) fishing vessels in near-coastal waters.
A persistent dispute continues, especially in the Gyeongbuk and Gangwon regions, due to the overlap in major catch species (such as herring) and fishing grounds between coastal fisheries (including coastal purse seines) and nearshore small purse seine fisheries.
Therefore, to resolve these disputes and strengthen the management of fishery resources along the East Coast, this proposal seeks to add a year-round fishing restriction zone on the East Coast to the prohibited areas and periods for the use of fishing gear by type of fishery, specifically targeting small purse seine fisheries and coastal purse seine fisheries.
[Main Points]
Establishment of a Year-Round Prohibited Area for the Use of Fishing Gear by Small Purse Seine and Coastal Purse Seine Fisheries
(Based on 3 Nautical Miles (NM) from the East Coast shoreline: Fishing is prohibited for Small Purse Seines (within 3 NM) and for Coastal Purse Seines (outside 3 NM).)
