[Background for Promotion]

○ Following the establishment of the legal basis and evaluation system allowing cell-cultured foods to be recognized as food ingredients in 2024, cell-cultured food ingredients that pass safety evaluations can now be developed into processed foods in the future.

○ Accordingly, it is necessary to establish separate food categories, standards, and specifications to ensure safety management by considering hazards arising from the raw material and process characteristics of cell-cultured food ingredients.

○ To secure safety in response to the growth of the cell-cultured food industry and to enhance predictability for related industries, it is necessary for the government to establish a management framework.

[Regulatory Content]

○ Add mandatory requirements for cell-cultured food ingredients as food materials, and establish new food categories, standards, and specifications for cell-cultured processed foods.
