(1) Reasons for Proposal
This Amendment aims to expand the scope of vehicles subject to mandatory installation of lane departure warning systems, thereby strengthening traffic safety with respect to large business-purpose vehicles such as buses, trucks, etc.
- Require newly manufactured vehicles and existing operating vehicles to install lane departure warning systems to prevent traffic accidents caused by large business-purpose vehicles such as trucks, buses, etc.
- Attempts* being made to reduce the scope of new vehicles exempt from such mandatory installation to strengthen traffic safety. Accordingly, the same should apply to existing vehicles for consistency.
*Amendment to and promulgation of the Rule on Performance and Standards of Motor Vehicles and Motor Vehicle Parts (Ordinance of the Ministry) planned (end of June)
- Concerns over some blind spots and civil petitions for subsidies in cases of exceptions from installation requirement due to structural changes (4-shaft or more, etc.), etc.
(2) Major Provisions
