(1) Reasons for Proposal

This Amendment aims to newly insert standards and specifications regarding elderly-friendly food to enable various food for the elderly to be manufactured and distributed in response to population aging.

Based on the results of re-evaluation, crataegus cuneata (Japanese hawthorn) and hawthorn that raise safety concerns shall be deleted from the list of food ingredients. Also, given the traditional grounds for intake, hippophae rhamnoides (seed) shall be considered to be an ingredient for limited use.

The maximum residue limit for pesticides used at home and abroad shall be amended to supply safe food to the public.

(2) Major Provisions

A. Newly insert standards and specifications for elderly-friendly food (2.2.25, 2.3.4 (1) D.)

1) There is a need for standards and specifications that enable food suitable for the elderly to be manufactured and distributed in accordance with the nation's transition into an aging society.

2) Newly insert standards and specifications on elderly-friendly food.

3) Ensure vitalization of the food industry and better consumer choices through distribution of various elderly-friendly food.

B. Limit the use of food ingredients (attached Table 1, attached Table 2)

1) There is a need to rearrange food ingredients in a way that reflects the results of re-evaluation.

2) Delete crataegus cuneata (Japanese hawthorn) and hawthorn, which according to results of re-evaluation of food ingredients raise concerns of health hazards, from the list of food ingredients.

3) Convert hippophae rhamnoides seed into a limited use ingredient to be used only for manufacturing cream.

4) Provide safe food to the public by ensuring the safety of food ingredients.

C. Amend the maximum residue limit for pesticides in agricultural products ((24) dichlobenil, (31) myclobutanil, (59) bitertanol, (66) cypermethrin, (67) cyfluthrin, (68) cyhalothrin, (178) phoxim, (302) fosetyl-aluminum in attached Table 4)

1) There is a need to amend limits for pesticides operated according to temporary domestic standards and pesticides newly registered in the Pesticide Control Act, using materials on residue in accordance with the standards for safe use.

2) Amend the maximum residue limit for eight types of pesticides such as dichlobenil, etc.

3) Provide safe food to the public by newly inserting and amending the maximum residue limits for pesticides in agricultural products.
