1. Reasons for Amendment

The Act on the Promotion of Saving and Recycling of Resources was amended (Act No. 19311; promulgated on March 28, 2023; to be enforced on March 29, 2024) to change the recyclability rating of packaging materials from evaluating the quality, structure, and ease of recycling to evaluating the quality, color, weight, and ease of recycling. Accordingly, this Amendment reflects specific matters pursuant to the standards on the recyclability rating of packaging materials.

2. Major Provisions

 A. Change from the former evaluation of the quality, structure, and ease of recycling of packaging materials to an evaluation of the quality, color, weight, and ease of recycling of packaging materials

 B. Add detailed standards on the quality and structure of PET bottle packaging materials and add a lightness index of not more than 1 to the evaluation method of the quality, color, weight, and ease of recycling of PET bottle packaging materials
