Reasons for Proposal
The current Act stipulates that workers may apply for family care leave of at least 30 days and up to 90 days per year to reduce the burden of family care and achieve a better work-family balance, but it does not prescribe separate days of leave for single-parent families.
However, in the case of workers in single-parent families who raise young children alone, they must request separate leave due to the urgency of protecting their child who gets an infectious disease.
Therefore, this amendment aims to support the work-family balance of single-parent family workers by stipulating that if a worker in a single-parent family whose children suffers from an infectious disease requests leave, the employer shall give five days of paid leave to the worker per year for child care (Article 22-5 newly inserted).
Major Provisions
Require employers to give five days of paid leave per year to a worker in a single-parent family whose children have an infectious disease for child care, and impose an administrative fine for non-compliance with this (Article 22-5 and Article 39).
