Reasons for Proposal
Although the National Human Rights Commission of Korea expressed its opinion in 2013 to improve the corporate practice of discriminating between the congratulations and condolences for the father's side of the family and those for the mother’s side, it has been pointed out that some companies continue to pursue such discrimination.
To address companies’ unreasonable practice, this Act aims to specify that the employer cannot discriminate when providing money and goods or leaves for the father’s side or mother’s side of the family (Article 9 paragraph 2 and Article 37 paragraph 4 subparagraph 2-2 newly inserted).
Major Provisions
Specify that the employer cannot discriminate when providing money and goods or leaves for the father’s side or mother’s side of the family, and impose punishment for any violation of the foregoing (Article 9 paragraph 2 and Article 37 paragraph 4 subparagraph 2-2 newly inserted)
