Reasons for Proposal

At a time when the robotics industry is emerging as a future growth industry, demand for intelligent robots is expected to increase consistently and the robotics industry is expected to create businesses and jobs.

While Korea, which sets a target to become one of the four major robotics powerhouses by 2023, needs to nurture the intelligent robotics industry urgently, the current Act only states that the Minister of Trade, Industry and Energy can establish support policies required to nurture professionals, develop robotics technologies, and promote commercialization, but no detailed support measures are specified to develop professionals and technologies related to intelligent robotics.

In this regard, this Act aims to require the Minister of Trade, Industry and Energy to designate Robot Job Training Centers to nurture professionals in the intelligent robotics industry and fund their facility and operating expenses in whole or in part, designate nationally important robotics technologies as key intelligent robotics technologies, and allow for supporting research and development and disseminating research outcomes in an effort to establish an intelligent robotics industrial ecosystem (Articles 9-2 and 9-3 newly inserted).
